- Are your products SMOG
legal? None of our products are CARB
certified and although most states do not require a CARB certificate,
we suggest you check your local smog laws.
- My state does not require a
CARB certificate. Will I pass emmissions? It will depend on
the rest of your modifications. If your car is properly tuned and would
have pass smog before the headers where installed and if the headers
are installed correctly you should not have any problems. HOWEVER, if
your state requires a CARB certificate for aftermarket products, then
most likely you will not pass the visual test. Although this applies
mostly to the state of California please check your local laws to find
out what are your local requirements.
- Will I be able to hook up all
my sensors? Our products are designed to include all the necessary
sensors with the exception of our "Race Only" versions.
- Do I need to modify my car if
I want to install your headers? No modifications are necessary
in order to fit our headers. However, in some models you will have to
relocate your O2 sensor in order to avoid getting a check engine light.
- Why do I get a CEL (check engine
light)? By removing your stock manifold, you are also removing
a pre-cat, which sends a signal to a second O2 sensor. Since your ECU
cannot read this signal it triggers a check engine light (CEL). Although
this signal does not harm your vehicle nor causes any loss of performance,
we recommend you fix it
- How do I get rid of my CEL?
To avoid getting a check engine light, you will
need to re-route the bottom O2 sensor to read after the second cat (
the one under the car.) You will need to have the included 18mm o2 fitting
welded on after the second cat by a muffler shop or a competent welder,
and you will also have to extend the wires of the O2 sensor to reach
the new fitting.
- FOR ALTIMA V6 OWNERS
As of now, there is relly
nothing we can do to completely eliminate the CEL codes. Your computer
is telling you that there is an increase air flow into your exhaust
system and it doesn’t know how to handle it, within the stock
parameters.
We’ve included a set of wires for you to extend and relocate your
rear Oxygen sensors but if that doesn’t work, then you might want
to try an Oxygen sensor simulator such as the one offered by Caspers
Electronics (try www.jegs.com)
to fool your ECU.
Currently the only thing you can do, on a stock vehicle is either leave
the exhaust system intact, or instal your race headers and enjoy the
20 hp gain until someone like JWT or Technosquare develops an ECU upgrade
for the vehicle.
You are purchasing a RACE HEADER and bottom line, anything we do to
cancel the ECU code will pretty much eliminate the HP gain you are looking
for on a race header.
- How much HP improvement should
I expect? It varies from model to model. Please click on the
"Dyno Results" links on our individual product pages to see
independent testing results.
- Will I void my warranty by installing
an after-market product? The
Magnuson Moss Act states that a manufacturer cannot void your warranty
for using an aftermarket part to replace a part the manufacturer would
not provide for free. However, if something you have problems with may
have been caused by the modification, for instance you get water in
your MAF from your CAI; you void that part of your warranty. You can
check you contract and owner's manual under "WHAT IS NOT COVERED"
to be sure.
- How do I get Hotshot Performance
decals? You can send a
self adressed, stamped envelope and specify your color preference. However,
if we don't have that color we will send you whatever is available.
- Aren't all headers and intake
systems the same? No they
are not. Many companies import their products from overseas without
any R&D, which will make them all the same. However, at Hotshot
Performance we design, prototype and test all Hotshot products on the
vehicle they are intended to fit. And because we keep our manufacturing
in-house, we can make any necessary changes at any time.
