CHECK
ENGINE LIGHT AND PRE-CAT REMOVAL QUESTIONS
Please
read before ordering or installing
On any
vehicle, where the stock manifold design incorporates a catalytic converter,
there will usually be two O2 sensors. One reading before and one reading
after the cat.
By removing
this converter (or pre-cat on cars with two converters) when you install
a header, the second O2 sensor no longer reads what it considers to
be the proper air fuel ratio. This is why you will get a Check Engine
Light or CEL.
In order
to avoid a CEL, you will need to do 3 things:
1. Install an O2 sensor fitting behind the second cat. If your car is
not equipped with a second cat, there are many high flow universal cats
available that can be installed in it's place.
2. Extend the wires on your second O2 sensor to reach the new fitting.
3. Plug the existing O2 sensor fitting in you header
Hotshot
Performance provides you with an O2 fitting and plug as well as a set
of re-location wires when you purchase your header.
Installation
of the new fitting should cost less than $50 at any muffler shop, and
you can use the plug to seal the new fitting until you can either extend
the O2 sensor wires yourself, or you can go to a professional and have
it done.
