Hornets

These large (1 to 1½ inches), reddish, stinging insects feed on other insect types and build their fragile, paper-like nests in secluded areas, like hollow trees, alcoves and eaves. Their nests can contain thousands of insects, and it’s difficult to prevent them from building a nest near your home. Hornets are generally more docile than other types of stinging insects, but they will sting aggressively if their nest is disturbed.
